First off, I have nothing against .NET per se.
My issue is with software developers who rush headlong towards .NET without, apparently, stopping to question whether it’s the right technology for their situation. In fact I’m convinced that, in most cases, it’s not the right technology.
As I said though, I have nothing against .NET. If I’d begun this weblog 10 years ago I might have called it “the case against MFCâ€, or even “the case against C++â€. VB would have been too soft a target by the way: see, for example, Verity Stob’s excellent Thirteen ways to loathe VB.
My hope is that, through this blog, I can encourage software developers (even if only one or two) to be a little more independent in their thinking about their chosen profession.
Come on people: you’re certainly amongst the more intelligent examples of humankind. Why insist on following the herd as though you haven’t got two brain cells to rub together?
